A pure cotton twill at 135-140 g/m² and 148 cm wide, dyed to a warm solid beige, and finished so the cloth handles far more softly than a standard cotton twill.
What “Imitation Tencel” Means Here
The composition is 100% cotton — there is no tencel or lyocell fibre in this fabric. “Imitation tencel” describes the hand, not the content: the cloth is finished to give the soft, fluid, quietly lustrous feel buyers associate with tencel, while keeping cotton’s breathability and straightforward care.
On a twill base that combination is the interesting part. A plain cotton twill at this weight is a workwear cloth — dry, firm and a little stiff. The finish here softens the surface and the fall, so you keep the twill’s strength and get a cloth that drapes like a dress fabric instead of a trouser fabric.
What Twill Gives You
Twill is woven with the weft passing over two or more warp threads, stepping one thread each pick. That is what produces the diagonal line you can see on the surface — and it changes how the cloth behaves.
- More body at the same weight – the longer floats make a denser, heavier-handing cloth than a plain weave of equal gsm.
- Stronger and more abrasion-resistant – fewer interlacing points per thread, so the yarns take more wear before they fail.
- Better crease recovery – the diagonal structure hides the fine creases that a flat plain weave shows up.
- A visible diagonal line – a subtle surface texture, and a slightly deeper, richer look in a solid shade.
The Cloth
- Weight – 135-140 g/m². Mid-weight: enough structure for a shaped garment, still light enough for a shirt.
- Hand – smooth with a soft finish and a little residual body from the twill.
- Drape – falls in soft, rounded folds rather than sharp ones.
- Lustre – a restrained sheen, most visible along the diagonal at an angle.
- Sewing – stable, no slipperiness; holds a pressed seam well and takes a crisp edge where you want one.
- Care – wash cool, line dry, press warm. Warm neutrals show marks more than mid tones, so treat stains promptly.
Colour
The photographs show this quality in a solid warm beige — a soft, slightly sandy neutral that reads warm in daylight and stays even across the width.
A colour card is available, so other shades can be selected or matched for a production run. Ask us for the current card and the colours held in this quality.
Commonly Used For
- Shirts and blouses – the twill body keeps a shaped shirt from collapsing.
- Dresses – mid-weight and opaque, so a simple dress needs no lining.
- Skirts – the drape gives movement while the twill holds a clean line.
- Trousers and shorts – where a softer cotton twill is wanted.
- Light jackets and overshirts – enough body for a soft unlined structure.
- Home textiles – cushions and light covers in neutrals.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. Does this fabric contain tencel?
No. It is 100% cotton. “Imitation tencel” refers to the finish and hand — a soft, fluid, lightly lustrous cotton, here on a twill base.
2. How does this compare with your other imitation tencel qualities?
It is the heaviest of the three and the only twill. The plain weave (95 g/m²) is the lightest and softest; the poplin (115 g/m²) is smoother and crisper; this twill (135-140 g/m²) has the most body and the best crease recovery. All three are 100% cotton with the same tencel-like finish.
3. What is the weight and width?
135-140 g/m² and 148 cm wide.
4. What is it best for?
Shirts, blouses, dresses and skirts — anything wanting a soft-falling cotton with a bit more substance than a shirting.
5. How long does production take?
15-20 working days from order confirmation.
6. What is the MOQ?
1 metre — give us the colour and quantity and we will confirm.
7. Can I choose the colour?
Yes. A colour card is available; ask us for it and for the colours held in this quality.
8. Can you make a custom design?
Yes — send your requirement and we will confirm.
