A silk-cotton print at 80 g/m², cut at 140 cm. The design is painted rather than drawn: blue five-petal flowers with dark centres, larger yellow blooms with dark speckled hearts, and pale pink flowers that fade into the ground, all connected by fine dark vine stems over sage and olive leaves. It is a loose, floating layout rather than a regimented repeat — several motifs soften at the edges as if the wash had bled, which is what gives it the hand-painted character.
The design
- Watercolour treatment – edges soften and some blooms fade out entirely, so the print has depth rather than flat colour.
- Mixed flower scale – small blue flowers and larger yellow ones sit at different sizes, which keeps the eye moving.
- Fine line detail – dark vine stems and speckled flower centres are drawn with a fine line, giving the design structure under the soft colour.
- Open layout – there is generous space between the motifs, so the ground reads as part of the design rather than as filler.
- No direction – the motifs are scattered without an up-or-down orientation, so panels can be cut either way.
- Scale reference – the first image in the gallery is shot with a ruler laid across the cloth.
The cloth: silk and cotton at 80 g/m²
Silk brings a soft lustre and a smooth hand; cotton brings breathability, a matte counterpoint and easy care. At 80 g/m² this sits a step above a very light voile-weight cloth, which shows up in how it behaves:
- Lustre – a low, soft sheen from the silk under a cotton-soft surface; it lifts the watercolour palette without looking synthetic.
- Drape – fluid, but with a little more presence in the fall than a 60 g/m² cloth, so soft structures hold better.
- Weight – light and cool to wear, with slightly more body than the lightest silk-cottons.
- Opacity – more covered than a 60 g/m² cloth, though whether you need a lining still depends on the garment. Test it over your intended underlayer.
- Sewing – a fine needle and a light stitch; the cloth still shifts, so pin or baste generously. French seams and rolled hems suit it.
- Care – treat as a delicate: gentle washing, low iron, and test a swatch before bulk finishing.
Commonly used for
- Dresses and skirts – the drape and the soft floral suit a light summer dress or a gathered skirt.
- Blouses and shirts – an open, quiet print works well on a simple shape.
- Sleepwear and robes – a smooth cloth with a calm pattern.
- Childrenswear – the flower scale and gentle palette sit comfortably on small garments.
- Scarves and accessories – the lustre and the painted look carry a small piece.
