A 100% polyester fabric at 145 g/m², cut at 160 cm — the widest we run. The finish is a fine, closely and evenly spaced crinkle running in one direction across the cloth, set permanently into the fabric. At this width the cloth is efficient to cut and the texture carries a plain garment on its own, without a print or a special shape.
The texture
- Fine crinkle – the lines are closely spaced and even, which gives a fine, plissé-like surface rather than a coarse crushed effect.
- Permanent finish – the crinkle is set into the cloth, not pressed in, so it survives wear and washing.
- Directional – the crinkle lines run in one direction. Cut panels in the same orientation to keep the texture consistent across a garment.
- Light and shade – the ridges and hollows catch light differently, so the surface reads with depth and the colour shifts as the fabric moves.
- Hides creasing – a textured cloth is far more forgiving of the creases a flat cloth shows after a day's wear.
Width 160 cm
160 cm is wider than most of what we run, and on a marker that matters: fewer metres per garment, more room to place panels, and less waste on larger sizes. If you are currently cutting a similar crinkle at 145–150 cm, this is worth costing against it.
Colours
Five colours are held on the card for this quality:
| Colour | Character |
|---|---|
| Gold / mustard | Warm, and the most dimensional — the sheen on the ridges shows most here |
| Black | Deep and quiet; the texture does the work without colour |
| Cream / ivory | Soft and neutral; good for bridal and occasionwear |
| Teal / green | A strong mid-tone that reads rich against the crinkle |
| Pale peach | Light and warm; softens the texture visually |
The gallery photographs show this quality in cream and in a warmer beige. Ask us for the full colour card and current stock colours — other shades can be selected or matched for a production run.
The cloth at 145 g/m²
- Weight – a mid-weight with enough body to hold a shape; the crinkle stiffens it further.
- Drape – holds volume rather than falling flat, which suits gathered and layered shapes.
- Handle – dry and textured, with a low sheen on the ridges.
- Sewing – polyester feeds easily and does not fray heavily; use a needle and stitch suited to a synthetic.
- Care – wash cool. The crinkle is set, but hot ironing directly on the cloth will flatten it.
Commonly used for
- Dresses, skirts and blouses – the texture gives a simple shape surface interest without a print.
- Occasionwear – the fine pleat reads formal in cream and warmer shades.
- Scarves, wraps and accessories – the light and shade on the crinkle works well in a small piece.
- Home textiles – cushions and drapery with a built-in texture.
- Stage and costume – the surface catches stage light.
