A silk-cotton print at 60 g/m², cut at 140 cm. The design is a dot print with a difference: each motif is painted rather than drawn, an irregular rounded blob with a ragged, feathered edge and a slightly uneven centre, set out in an offset grid. Nothing in the print has a clean outline, so the surface reads as hand-stamped rather than machine-perfect.
The design
- Painted, not vector – every dot is irregular. The ragged edges stop the print from looking like flat polka dots.
- Offset grid repeat – the dots sit in an even, staggered layout, so the print has a clear structure and matches easily across a seam.
- No up-or-down motif – there is no orientated shape in the design, so panels can be cut either way without the print looking reversed.
- Two-colour palette – one printing colour on a tinted ground. Quiet, and easy to pair with plains.
- Scale reference – the third image in the gallery is shot with a ruler laid across the cloth.
Two colourways
| Colourway | Ground | Motif |
|---|---|---|
| Blue | White / very pale blue | Medium blue |
| Red | Pale pink | Deep red / crimson |
Both colourways are shown in the gallery. Tell us which one — or both — and in what lengths.
The cloth: silk and cotton at 60 g/m²
Silk brings a soft lustre and a smooth, dry hand; cotton brings breathability, a matte counterpoint and easy care. At 60 g/m² the result is a fine, fluid dress cloth rather than a shirting:
- Lustre – a low, soft sheen from the silk, sitting under a cotton-soft surface. It lifts the colour without looking synthetic.
- Drape – fluid and close-falling. It gathers into fine folds and hangs without stiffness.
- Weight – 60 g/m² is light. Garments are cool and light to wear.
- Opacacy – light enough that coverage depends on the garment; plan a lining or a self-layer where it matters, and test it over your intended underlayer.
- Sewing – a fine needle and a light stitch. The cloth shifts, so pin or baste generously; French seams and rolled hems suit it.
- Care – treat as a delicate: gentle washing, low iron, and test a swatch before bulk finishing.
Commonly used for
- Blouses and shirts – the drape and the quiet print suit a fluid, loose silhouette.
- Dresses and skirts – gathers and bias cuts come easily at this weight.
- Pyjamas, robes and sleepwear – a fine, smooth cloth with a calm pattern.
- Scarves and accessories – the lustre and the hand-painted look carry a small piece.
- Childrenswear and lining layers – a light cloth with a gentle print.
