A linen-viscose print at 120 g/m², cut at 140 cm. The design is a stylised palm: blue fronds drawn as brush strokes with black outlines and black accents picking out the trunk and the base of each crown, scattered across a cream ground at varied angles so the repeat never lines up into rows.
The design
- Brush-drawn fronds – the leaflets are laid in as strokes rather than outlined shapes, so the palms read as painted.
- Black line accents – the dark outlines and trunk marks give the blue shape definition and stop it reading as flat.
- Scattered placement – the palms sit at different rotations, which keeps the ground lively and makes the print forgiving to cut.
- Two-colour build – blue and black on cream. Nothing to shade-match and no half-tones to drift between lots.
- Scale reference – the gallery includes fold shots showing how the palm scale sits on the cloth in use.
The cloth: linen and viscose at 120 g/m²
Linen brings a dry, textured hand and a natural slub; viscose brings softness and drape and takes the edge off the linen's coarseness. At 120 g/m² the result is a mid-weight cloth with more presence than a voile but still easy to wear:
- Surface – a visible, slightly irregular weave with the slub that linen is known for. The print sits on that texture, so the colour has a grain rather than looking printed onto a flat sheet.
- Drape – viscose softens the fall considerably; it hangs with a light, fluid line rather than standing stiff.
- Body – enough substance for a soft shirt, a simple dress or a loose trouser.
- Breathability – both fibres move air, so it wears cool in warm conditions.
- Character – linen blends crease as they wear. That is part of the look; decide up front whether you want it.
- Sewing – stable and easy to handle; a standard needle and mid-length stitch work well.
- Care – washes well and softens with use; a first wash will relax the cloth slightly, so test a swatch.
Commonly used for
- Resort and holidaywear – the palm motif and the cool hand point straight at warm-weather ranges.
- Shirts, overshirts and dresses – the weight suits a soft shirt or a simple dress.
- Trousers, shorts and co-ords – enough body for loose bottoms.
- Home textiles and accessories – the decorative print carries cushions, table linen and bags.
- Childrenswear – the palm shapes stay recognisable when scaled down.
