The Base Cloth

• Handle – dry and slightly textured from the linen, softened by the viscose so it does not feel rough.
• Drape – fluid with body; it falls and moves rather than standing away from the body.
• Surface – the linen slub runs through the cloth and is still visible under the print, which is part of its character rather than a fault.
• Breathability – both fibres breathe, so it stays comfortable in warm weather.
• Sewing – stable and easy at the needle; linen blends can shift at the cut edge, so finish seams and handle panels gently.
• Care – wash cool, line dry, press warm. Like any blend with linen, it creases lightly and recovers well.

The Print

The design is a painterly white poppy on a pale blue ground: open white petals with brown-drawn veins, a small pink-red centre, and green foliage and seed heads between the flowers. The scale is large and the placement is open, so the cloth reads as a floral without becoming busy in a garment.
